Usually some kind of fabric that is applied to hold the dressing in place.
What is the best way to prevent abrasions?
Wear clothing that protects the skin (long pants, boots, gloves, etc)
What happens if a bandage is applied too tightly?
If may restrict blood flow to a healing wound
1) This can cause the wound to heal slowly
2) May cause pain to the person
3) In severe situations this can cause the body part (arm or leg to develop sores or even die)
How do you treat an abrasion
Place under running water for 5 minutes
May need to scrub if area is dirty or has foreign material (gravel, dirt etc in skin)
Apply antibiotic ointment to wound
Apply a dressing
Why do you try to leave fingertips and toes open when applying a bandage to the arm or leg?
So you can check for circulation (are the toes and fingers warm and getting good blood flow)
