Formal Writing Traditions
When formally writing about a book, you are expected to use this tense to describe events in the book, even if the book itself doesn't use this tense.
What is present tense?
The Constitution of the United States of America is seen as the foundation of our country, but it was actually built from the remains of this previous governing document.
