Cronus, Zeus's father, was jealous of the attention Rhea paid to her children, so he swallowed the children. Before he could swallow Zeus (the youngest), Rhea convinced Cronus that a rock was baby Zeus and he swallowed the rock, which made him vomit up the children he previously swallowed. When Zeus grew up, he confronted Cronus and waged war with the help of his siblings and Prometheus. Cronus is killed in the war.
