Why do scientists study Earth's climate?
To understand how Earth has changed in the past and to predict how it will likely change in the future!

A place has one very cold day in summer. Does that mean its climate has changed?
Not Really, One unusual day is weather; climate is measured over many years.
What could scientists learn by comparing the results of a BioBlitz from this year with one from many years ago?
They could learn how the plants and animals moved or changed from many years ago to now!
A tree is cut down, but its stump is left behind. Could the stump still be useful to living things?
Yes, we saw some stumps and they were still useful! Trees grow back, and insects, fungi and moss also grow or used the stump!

Why might scientists study ice, tree rings, or rocks to learn about climates from long ago?
They can hold clues about what Earth’s climate was like in the past.
