What should I bring with me to class every day?
Something to write with, your journal, a chromebook and charger, and a binder
(Plus your copy of whichever book we're reading at the time)
Having all necessary materials each day is a part of your professionalism grade.
What happens if I am late to class?
Your tardiness will be reflected in points taken off of your class professionalism grade. If you are tardy more than twice, I will speak to your parents and then your dean.
Can I retake quizzes?
You can retake only grammar quizzes and not reading quizzes for up to full credit
What are two grammar topics that you will learn and be evaluated on this year?
You will be able to recognize and repair errors like passive voice, sentence fragments, run-ons, misplaced/dangling modifiers, and disagreement (pronoun/antecedent and subject/verb). You will also be able to recognize and repair single word usage errors.
You will be able to identify and use participial phrases, absolute phrases, adjective clauses, and adverb clauses.

When instructed to do so by Ms. Glickman
How can we earn class challenge points?
You earn class challenge points by winning weekly class challenges against the other NMC class. You can also earn additional points each day that 100% of students submitted their homework with 100% timeliness.
What is a professionalism grade?
A daily grade on your conduct as a learner in the classroom. You must be respectful, prompt, and come prepared each day for full credit for your professionalism grade.
What are our pre-established class norms?

Bring yourself to class—that is, fill our class space with your personality, your interests, your inquisitiveness, your talent.
First set up a meeting with Ms. Glickman for a writing conference. Then you will have 3 days to revise your work for a new grade. If you cannot complete your revision within those three days, you will be stuck with your original grade.
What is the last major project that we will do in this class?
Profile writing project
Does the gradebook reset every term?
No! You will have a year-long gradebook where each term's grade on your report card will act as a progress report. Only your grade at the end of the year will go on your transcript.
Do I have to speak every day?
Yes--you'll have to speak to some degree every class. Sometimes that will just be during a check-in question or write-in share out with your table group. Other times you'll be presenting an argument or homework assignment to the class. Most often, you will be invited to participate in class harkness discussions which works best when everyone gets a chance to speak.
