90% for less than 1 year, 50% for older than 1 year (younger is better)
radical surgical resection or amputation, limb savage procedures, chemo
DO NOT PALPATE pre op (careful bathing and handling)
What is MIBG therapy
special room with concrete lead walls, catheter to collect radioactive urine (can scan neuroblastoma in small doses and treat in larger doses)
What are the nursing considerations for osteosarcoma
preop prep is crucial, support during amputation, body image concerns, phantom leg pain
What is the diagnosis for Retinoblastoma
cat’s eye reflex, strabismus, red/painful eye, blindness
For Bone Tumors who is at high risk
more common in males during accelerated growth rate of adolescents
Where does Ewing Sarcoma arise from
marrow (especially the femur, tibia, ulna, humerus, vertebrae, pelvis, scapula, ribs, skull)
What is the diagnsosis for bone tumors
CT/Bone Scans/Biopsy, MRI (for neurovascular and soft tissue expansion)
Who is at high risk for Wilms Tumor
2-3 years, African American children, males
What is the most common site for osteosarcoma
long bones, especially in the legs (distal femur)
Where does Wilms originate
kidneys (renal and intra-abdominal)
