A dangerous sickness that spreads quickly to lots of people in many places, all over a country or even the world.

The big system of money, resources, and production, for a specific location.

They have to work very long hours, might run out of medical supplies, etc.
How can pandemics affect workers and businesses in North Carolina?
Workers may be too sick to go to work, businesses might have fewer customers and have to close, etc.
Do pandemics usually help or harm the economy?

How does a pandemic affect the demand for medical supplies?
There's a spike in need for masks, vaccines, gloves, etc. Hospitals need more beds and more equipment to account for all of the sick people.
What happens to the economy when people are too sick to work?
Less work is done, so less money is made, negatively impacting the economy. Some businesses may lose money, and eventually have to close.

Overworked doctors/nurses, need for more medical supplies, etc.

As the need for more medical care and supplies grows, so does the need for more money to support the system. (More money taken out, less coming in.)

The government can grant money to workers and business, and give money to healthcare industries to support the need for medical supplies.
