What is the difference between a goal statement and a benchmark or objective?
Goal Statement - Statements written in objective and measurable terms that describes what the student should be able to accomplish in the next 12 months. The annual goal should be based on the team’s determination of the student’s needs that result from his/her disability to enable the student to be involved in the general curriculum, or for preschool students, age- appropriate activities and must reflect consideration of the State Goals for Learning and the Illinois Learning Standards. Benchmarks/Objectives - Statements written in measurable terms that identify the intermediate steps between the student’s present levels of performance and his/her annual goals.
