What is the lithosphere?
A place where two plates separate
What is a divergent boundary?
When under enough stress rock bends
What is folding?
Any place where gas, melted rock, or ash comes out of the ground
What is a volcano?
Ground movements occurring when blocks of earth move and release energy
What is an Earthquake?
The second layer of earth, below the lithosphere
What is the asthenosphere?
A place where plates slide past each other sideways
What is a transform plate boundary?
The process of rock changing shape when rock is under pressure
What is deformation?
Magma that has reached the surface
What is lava?
After an earthquake when the ground starts to shake again
What is an aftershock?
With a root meaning middle, this is the third layer from the surface
What is the mesosphere?
A place where two plates crash into each other
What is a convergent boundary?
A big crack in rocks
What is a fault?
Molten rock under the surface
What is magma?
When after deformation, a fault can return to its original state
What is elastic rebound?
The only layer with liquid iron and nickel
What is the outer core?
When the crust moves away from other crust due to subduction
What is sea-floor spreading?
Rocks being compressed.
What is compression?
Any place where clouds of ash and lava erupt
What is a vent?
A place inside earth where an earthquake originally started
What is the focus?
The absolute center of earth with solid iron and nickel due to pressure
What is the inner core?
The theorized super continent, containing all of the continents today
What is Pangaea?
A force that stretches and stresses rock
What is tension?
A place in the middle of a tectonic plate that has magma underneath it
What is a hot spot?
The place directly above the focus, and usually where the earthquake is strongest
What is the epicenter?
