When is the best time to apply to dental school?
Whenever you feel your application is most competitive. Whether it is as a junior or after a couple of gap years. Whenever you feel you have sufficient shadowing, GPA, time, and money.
How many times can you take the DAT?
You can take it as many times as you want! Between the first three attempts, you must wait 3 months each time. After the first three attempts, you must wait a year to retest and you will need to contact the ADA for retesting permission.

Do you need to go through UB's pre-health committee?
No, technically you do not. You could simply send dental schools your recommendation letters and application. However, dental schools know which schools have pre-health committees and they will most likely ask why you did not use that resource. It is a good idea to go through them, unless you have a good reason not to.
