This routine should launch Spiral Review while building fluency, energy, and joy.
What is rolling numbers?
Spiral Review and IM blocks should be executed in alignment with these two things.
What are the curriculum and lesson design?
Students learning a new skill repeatedly forget key vocabulary and representations. This resource could provide access without lowering the rigor.
What is anchor charts?
While circulating, teachers should check student work AND this additional source of evidence.

Every IM block begins with this.
What is a math chant/song?
Students quietly complete every Spiral Review problem while their teacher prepares for IM at her desk. Spiral Review has become this instead of active precision practice.
What is passive review?
Instead of immediately telling a stuck scholar what to do next, teachers use these to keep the mathematical thinking with the scholar.
What are prompting questions?
Ms. Ramey circulates to every scholar during independent practice. She redirects behavior and checks whether answers are correct, but rarely examines how scholars solved the problems.
What is missing from her monitoring?
What is looking for evidence of student thinking?
A class is highly focused and mathematically rigorous, but routines feel flat and mechanical. This part of Precision needs a level-up.
What is joy?
During a launch, Mr.Tee carefully explains the task, models how to get started, and tells scholars which representation will work best. Scholars know exactly what to do—but this essential part of the task now belongs more to the teacher than to the scholars.
What is the thinking?
Precise feedback doesn't do the thinking for scholars. Instead, it should push them to do these either of these two things with their mathematical work.
What is revise or explain their reasoning?
“Good job!” and “Try again!” may acknowledge a scholar, but they are missing this type of feedback that responds directly to the scholar's work.
What is specific feedback?
