What is a case?
A team's constructive speech that illustrates their position on the resolution
What is the goal of the constructive speech/case?
To create a narrative, to explain why your position on the resolution is correct.
What is a Roadmap?
A roadmap is the identification of the order you will be addressing arguments in your speech.
What is a ballot?
Where judges record who the winner of the round is, speaker points, and comments
How long are Summary and Final Focus Speeches?
2 minutes
What is a framework?
The explanation of how the judge should evaluate the round.
What is the goal of a rebuttal?
To respond to your opponent's case.
What is signposting?
Saying what argument you are responding to and where you are on the flow so that the judge knows where to write your response on their flow
What are speaker points?
A score assigned to each speaker up to 30 points that reflects how well the judge thinks the debater spoke during the round.

What is a voter?
A voting issue; a reason why you should win the round
What is the goal of the crossfire?
To ask your opponents questions about their advocacy, to get concessions from your opponents, and to reveal holes in your opponents' case.
What is a paradigm?
A paradigm is a list of a judge's preferences for how they like to see a round play out.
What is a Card?
Evidence/a quote that is used to strengthen a debater's argument throughout the round.
What word does every resolution begin with?
"Resolved"
What is a Warrant?
A warrant is evidence to support your argument/claim.
What is the goal of the Summary Speech?
To narrow the scope of the debate to the important issues and explain how you are winning on those issues.
What is a link?
A link is a connection in the pattern of an argument. Links prevent debaters from making leaps. (Ex. going from A -> C is a leap, and the missing link is B).
What is a block?
A piece of evidence/quote that is used to respond to an opponent's argument.
How many crossfires are there per round, and how long are they?
3 crossfires (first, second, and grand), each are 3 minutes long
What is weighing?
Comparing your offense to your opponents' and explaining why yours matters more
What is the goal of the Final Focus?
To explain why you win the round/give voters.
What is an impact?
An impact is the end result of something. For example, cavities can be an impact of eating a lot of sugar.
