Week 8: Why did Christ have to be made perfect? Please bring at least 2 verses
(Philippians 2: 6-8) (Psalm 2:7)
Because he was made lower.
God gave us His immeasurable power. What does that mean? Please bring Scripture.
His divine power, the Spirit of God has been given to us! (Eph. 1:19 - our main verse, 2 Peter 1*:3-4)
We’ve been given the Spirit of God as a guarantee of our inheritance. (toward believers, not everyone has been given this immeasurable greatness of God’s power)
How does the Lord Jesus not experiencing corruption relate to our identity in Christ? Please bring Scripture.
We have the promises of Christ’s divine nature shared with us, so we are children of God and are eternal because God is eternal.
The Spirit of life dwells in us, so we have eternal life. (Rom 8:10)
Christ is the Holy One, He cannot experience corruption. He has a divine nature. (Rom 8:10)

(from Week 7: question 1)
~ The only debt we have is love because Christ paid our debt
Fill in the blank:
“ He makes provision for our _____, but He gives us the ____ of using those provisions.”
Holiness; Responsibility
Why is it important to know the power of the resurrection of the dead? Please bring scripture.
By knowledge of the resurrection of the dead is how someone attains translation. (Phil. 3:9-12) To grow in the knowledge of Christ.
They know things of the end (Enoch, for e.g.)
By knowledge of Christ, one is transformed - but reading, understanding and walking in it.
Paul had an aim!
Paul pressing forward to attain the resurrection of the dead, to know the resurrection power of Christ as Enoch, Elijah, and Christ did.
Knowledge from the Spirit of God strengthens the inner person
The entire body of Christ is growing to attain bodily resurrection
Week 8: Please give two examples that were given as examples of obedience. (Verses are required where applicable to receive full points).
(Hebrews 11:2,) (Psalm 128: 1) The Hall of Faith. God was pleased with them, and they all followed the specific command given to them.
Abraham and Issac (Gen 24: 3-4,6) ( Hebrews 11:9). Abraham taught Issac obedience and not victory
Elisha and Elijah were brought, but no verse reference was given.
Joshua ( Joshua 1: 8), through the commandments of God, he’d prosper in His way.
Week 8: What is the yoke that is broken; how is it broken? Please bring scripture references
(Isaiah 10:27) The yoke of the flesh is broken when one is filled/ fatten with the riches of the word of God and His goodness.
(Psalms 36: 6-10) When a believer takes full responsibility to fill themselves with the Word and Spirit of God.
A believer is sharing with you that it has been difficult to have peace in their walk with the Lord, even after trying to pray it away. How would you guide them to the truth in light of what we learned? Please bring Scripture.
(Phil. 4:7-9) - Structuring one’s thinking in such a way brings peace. If not, no peace.
Peace comes from walking with God, not from praying things away, but from walking with God.
According to the Book, what attitude should and shouldn’t our reliance on the Holy Spirit produce?
“ I can do it through Him who strengthens me; I can’t do it”
Week 8: Bring the main points for each section of the main verse.
Being made perfect:
He was made perfect to be High Priest (Heb 5: 5)
He became perfect through obedience. ( Philip 2: 8)
He became the source of eternal salvation:
He fulfilled the whole purpose of God, which makes him 1stborn.
Jesus has life within himself; therefore, He is able to give salvation to all. (Hebrews 7:25)
(Eph 1: 19) He is able to keep us because His power exceeds every other power.
To all who obey Him:
(1 Peter 1:2) Everything is done for the obedience of Christ.
( Hebrews 12: 24) He speaks a better word than Abel; Through Christ He desired all to find life.
God loves obedience, and blessings come to those who walk in His ways.
What does it mean to know God? Please bring scripture and an example.
A)
To walk with God is to know God.
By the knowledge of God, one is transformed - this knowledge is reading, understanding, and walking in it; not just knowing to know.
Walking in the knowledge of God is a spiritual understanding/work.
To walk with Christ is to walk in the knowledge of Christ.
B)
Enoch - Heb. 11:5, Gen. 5:22-24
Enoch’s testimony that he walked with God, pleased God, and escaped death by faith.
Jesus - walked with God, sinless. Christ fulfilled the law’s requirement of perfection, therefore, we are justified. (1 Corin 15: *45) - Christ is a life-giving spirit.
week 8: How does one become filled with the Spirit, and why is this important?
(Col 3:16) (Eph 5: 18) By the enrichment of the word of God in the heart of a person. By this they will be able to put away the misdeeds of the flesh.
(Luke 1:80) By it we also grow and become strong in Spirit.
From what we learned, how would you point a believer to the truth, who believes Christians are too weak to trust in God or too weak to do anything?
God is dwelling in us, and the life He has is at work in us because Jesus Christ was raised from the dead.
His divine power has already been given to us; this divine power is the Spirit of God. (2 Peter 1*:3-8)
The Spirit of God has been given to us to produce these fruits.
Humility is not really just weakness, but we have the immeasurable power of God at work in us to bear good fruits and (good works).
Eph. 6:10 - We can be strengthened by the Lord’s might - by the Spirit of God.
According to the book, what terms should be swapped when believers describe their progress in Holiness and why?
Victory & Defeat —> Obedience and Disobedience
When they say I am defeated, it makes one unconsciously slip out of their responsibility because they are saying something outside of them has defeated them. But when they say I am disobedient that places the responsibility of their sin squarely on them.
What are examples of corruption in the world (please bring scripture)? Why can’t the Lord Jesus Christ experience corruption?
A)
Evil desires are what corrupt the world. (Ja. 4:1-4) It is a result of sinful desires. Sinful desires include: envy, covetousness, violence (Gen. 6)
Lusts of wanting and not having, so kill.
If one is speaking evil, to check the heart. In the heart, a person can kill.
B) Because Christ is the Holy One, He cannot experience corruption. He has a divine nature. (Rom 8:10)
Week 8: Why is it important to focus on obedience and not victory
(Ps 128:1 NKJV) Those who fear the Lord are blessed, and the one who receives the blessing is the one who acts ( James 1:22-25)
( Matt 7: 21-23) People can have power and not obey; they are the ones who are cast away.
Goats desire power, and sheep are obedient. Those who hear His voice and don't obey are goats, not sheep.
God gives His power to those who obey, i.e., the apostles (Acts 5: 12, 32)
What points were brought toward our faith and the Spirit of God? Please bring an example brought and scripture.
A)
Christ had to take our sins after fulfilling the law so that we could be justified. He fulfilled the law’s requirements to perfection. Christ is a life-giving spirit. (1 Corin 15 referenced) (*specifically v. 45)
The Spirit of God will translate our mortal bodies to immortal bodies. Death has no reign over us because life his at work in us by the Spirit of God.
Our bodies will be completely translated at Christ’s coming.
B) Examples:
Enoch - (Heb. 11:5, Gen. 5:22-24, Jude 1:14)
Enoch was translated by faith - he did not taste death. By faith Enoch escaped death. He walked with and pleased God.
Elijah -
Translated body and also did not taste death.
God promised Elijah that he wouldn’t die the same death as fathers, but his flesh “dwells secure” (Ps. 16)
Ps 16 - God gave the same promise to Elijah to Jesus about not seeing corruption
The same Spirit of God lives in us, believers!
From what we learned in week 8, how would you respond to this scenario?
You have a friend who often wrestles with procrastination. Recently, they confided in you that they feel as though they are under attack from the enemy through anxiety and the busyness of school/work. They feel overwhelmed and as though they have little to no time to spend with the Lord.
Not everyone struggles for the same reasons, and we reap what we sow.
We have to pay careful attention to our ways.
We must walk in honesty and wisdom.
We ought to pay attention to the fruits we are bearing.
Those who walk in obedience come out victorious no matter the circumstance they are in.
How does one express their dependence on the Holy Spirit for holy life? (What are the two ways the book brought)
Humble and consistent intake of the scripture - continually feed our minds with His truth.
Pray for holiness - brought how Paul prayed for the Ephesians for God to strengthen them with power through his Spirit (Eph. 3:16) and Col 1:9-10 praying for them to be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
1 Thess 5:23 (be sanctified completely) and 1 Thess. 3:12-13 - hearts blameless in holiness before God the Father at the coming the Lord Jesus with all his saints.
Why does Gal. 5 contrast the walk by the Spirit vs walking by the flesh? Please bring reference.
(Gal 2) - the context is about how some of the Gentiles were neglected. The contrast of the walk is referring to circumcision.
Because of circumcision, the circumcision party felt more justified than the Gentiles.
Peter is being asked if he lives like Gentiles (justified by faith), then why act like Jews (with circumcision and Jewish traditions)
The purpose in Gal 2 is to show an example of what happens in the fellowship: the emphasis is on circumcision and the law.
Boasting of circumcision in order to not be persecuted. However, we’ve been crucified to the world and Jewish traditions.
What does it mean to walk by the Spirit versus to walk by the flesh from Galatians 5:16? Please bring Scripture.
Works of the flesh, like circumcision, are not to be gratified, but rather to walk by the Spirit of God.
(Gal. 2:14) To walk by the Spirit is to be in step to the truth of the gospel, which is that one is saved by faith and not by works of the law.
To walk according to the gospel of truth.
Otherwise, it makes the cross of Christ in vain.
Why we see (*in Gal 3:2) the question being asked: if they received the Spirit by works of the law, or by hearing with faith?
Week 8: Why should we hold fast to this Verse ( Ps 36:6-10)? Please bring the main points.
The mercy of God was revealed through the obedience of Christ.
We can not add or subtract from God’s word but must obey it as it is written.
Feasting on the abundance of His house is feasting on the Word of God.
Filling yourself with the word of God is filling yourself with His Spirit.
We take refuge in God as we wait for the coming salvation.
🤲🏽🍎👩—>💪🏾🗣️🏆👏🏽
We must walk in truthfulness and not give an image of weakness or strength. ( Being careful of how we portray ourselves).
A pure heart is wanting to be genuine before God.
We ought to let the fruit of our work praise us.
Shame will come in the end if one is exposed and not walking in obedience.
What is the significance of being alive to God? Please bring the two points mentioned and scripture.
“It means we are united with Christ in all His power.”
We are united with the One who is at work in us to strengthen us with His mighty power.
Col. 1:11 -being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy;
He has given His Holy Spirit to live within us. This is another way of looking at our union with Christ.
Phil 2:13 - the Spirit of God works in us that we may decide and act according to God’s good purpose.
Rom. 8:9-11 - The Spirit of God gives spiritual life and strength to live that life.
