What is a cell?
This is the basic building block of all living things.
What is the mitochondrion (or mitochondria)?
Often called the "powerhouse of the cell," this organelle releases energy from food.
What is glucose?
Plants use light energy to make this simple sugar that serves as their food.
What is the cell membrane?
This flexible outer layer controls what enters and exits the cell
What is the nucleus?
This large structure acts as the "brain" or control center of the cell, holding its genetic material.
What is the main thing that cellular respiration makes?
ATP or the energy that cells use to do work.
What is the cell wall?
Unlike animal cells, plant cells have this rigid outer layer that gives the plant structure and support.
What are ribosomes?
These tiny organelles float in the cytoplasm or stick to the ER, and their main job is to make proteins.
What is oxygen?
The gas that living things need for cellular respiration and plants make during photosynthesis.
What is the difference between unicellular and multicellular?
Organisms made of only one single cell are unicellular and organisms made of more than one cell are multicellular.
What is a vacuole?
They are the storage center in cells.
What are glucose (food/sugar) and oxygen needed for?
These two reactants (things that go in) are needed for cellular respiration to happen.
What are prokaryotic cells (or prokaryotes)?
This group of simple cells, which includes bacteria, does NOT have a nucleus to hold its DNA.
What are chloroplasts?
Found only in plant cells, these green organelles absorb sunlight to make food through photosynthesis.
Choose between plants, animals or both.
Can do photosynthesis =
Can do cellular respiration=
Can do photosynthesis = plants
