The ending displacement at 55 seconds is 0m. This gives 0m-40m = -40m (since it is going downhill, or from 40 to 0 m) The time is 55-20 seconds, or 35 seconds. Finally, take the displacement (40m) then divide by total time (35 seconds). -40m/35s = -1.14m/s

TO do this: combine east and west directions together and separately combine north-south directions together, remembering that opposite directions (like north & south for example) must have one cancelling the other. Since they're at right angles to each other, combine them using the pythagorean theorem. This should give the remaining side's length, and then just figure out which direction it is pointing.
