What is a READ plan?

Students will be flagged on DIBELS/Lectura or STAR reading.
Who is responsible for conducting student progress monitoring?
Teachers are responsible for conducting progress monitoring so they can directly observe student performance.

Do parents need to be notified if their child is placed on a READ plan?
Parents/guardians must be notified in writing about the plan.
Which students are required to have a READ Plan?
The READ Act applies to all students in kindergarten through third grade. A READ plan will be initiated for any student who is determined to have a Significant Reading Deficiency (SRD). Beyond third grade, existing READ Plans will be implemented, monitored, and updated until a student reaches grade-level proficiency.
What is the frequency of progress monitoring for students that are scoring Below Benchmark?
Every 10–12 instructional days for students scoring Below Benchmark.

Students in biliteracy programs will:
Be tested in the language of their primary literacy instruction during each benchmark window.
Be tested in English at least once per year (one benchmark window).
Be assessed using both DIBELS 8 and Lectura at one benchmark window during the school year, as required by law

The Colorado Reading to Ensure Academic Development Act, known as the Colorado READ Act, was passed by the Colorado Legislature in 2012.
Is there a sample progress monitoring calendar provided by the district?
The district has provided a sample calendar to help schools plan progress monitoring for students needing the most support.
Benchmark data should be reviewed during PLC meetings to inform instructional decisions, including both Tier 1 instruction and intervention.
What does a READ plan include?
A description of the student's specific reading skill deficiencies, goals for reading improvement, the instructional programming and support services the student will receive, and how progress will be monitored.
