What are the characteristics of the Earth?

Few Craters, 3rd planet from the Sun, Has gravity, Has water, Active Volcanoes

100

The sun appears to move through the sky each day because of the....

A) orbit of the Earth around the sun

B) rotation of the Earth on its axis

C) orbit of the Sun through space

D) reflection of the sun off the moon

B) the rotation of Earth on its axis

C) the rotation of the Earth on its axis

D) the tilt of the Earth on its axis

C) the rotation of the Earth on its axis

Most evaporation in the water cycle happens from oceans. This is because oceans....

A) expose the most water to the Sun's energy

B) contain water with salt dissolved in it

C) have currents that constantly mix them

D) reach the poles where sheets of ice form

A) expose the most water to the Sun's energy

B) 24 hours

C) 30 days

D) 365 days

B) 24 hours

200

What is the main difference between weather and climate?

Weather is short-termed or day-to-day

Climate is long-termed or year-to-year

300

Why is there not a technical beginning or end in the water cycle?

It is a cycle which is really a circle and circle have no beginning or end they just continue forever.

300

What is temperature?

The measure of the amount of heat energy in an object of system

300

What are the characteristics of the Moon?

Little Gravity, Many Craters, No Atmosphere, Earth's only natural satellite, No active volcanoes

300

In what direction does the sun appear to move each day due to the Earth's rotation?

A) from east to south

B) from west to east

C) from north to west

D) from east to west

D) from east to west

300

What are the four types of precipitation?

Rain, Sleet, Snow, Hail

400

What are the functions of the water cycle?

Surface flow/infiltration -> Evaporation -> Condensation -> Precipitation

400

What is weather? What is climate?

Weather: the current condition of the air outdoors such as temperature, cloud cover, wind speed and rainfall

Climate: The set of weather conditions that prevail ina region year after year

400

What are the characteristics of the sun, earth, and the moon?

Rotates, Sphere

400

How long does it take Earth to complete one revolution around the Sun?

365 days or 1 year

400

What are the planets in our solar system listed in order?

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune

500

Explain each function of the water cycle.

Evaporation: The sun heats up the Earth's surface water. The water in a liquid state then becomes a vapor and begins to rise.

Condensation: The temperature will cool as the water vapor rises. Then it will form droplets and condense around tiny air particles.

Precipitation: Droplets forming in the sky. Once they are heavy enough they fall to the ground.

Surface flow/infiltration: water from rain snowmelt and other sources that flow over the land and into the ocean/ surface water

500

Give a real-life example of weather and a real-life example of climate.

Weather: Today is rainy and humid

Climate: It is always hot during the summer in East Texas

500

What are the four seasons and the months associated with each season?

Fall/Autumn: September, October, November

Winter: December, January, February

Spring: March, April, May

Summer: June, July, August

500

What is gravity and what would happen if we did not have it?

Gravity is the force that holds the Sun, Earth and the Moon together in the system.

Without it, everything would float away and people would not be able to stand on the ground.

500

What are the characteristics of:

Sun and the Earth?

Moon and the Earth?
