What is a Hazard?

These two are the most effective levels in the hierarchy of controls, which reduce severity.

The probability of harm to a person, property or equipment, if exposed to a hazard.

A risk with a severity rating of 4 and a likelihood rating of 3 receives this risk score.

This control is considered the last line of defence in the hierarchy of risk controls.
What is PPE?
This part of risk management includes risk identification, risk analysis, and risk evaluation.
What is risk assessment?
This risk-assessment tool combines the likelihood of an incident with the severity of its consequences to determine the level of risk.
What is a Risk Matrix?
Machine guards, ventilation systems, acoustic enclosures, barriers, and safety nets are examples of this category of control.
What are engineering controls?
Young, inexperienced, pregnant, disabled, and lone workers.
What are vulnerable persons?
The process of understanding the nature of risk and determining it's level.
What is Risk Analysis?
This risk-assessment method visually connects the causes of a hazardous event with its potential consequences and preventative and mitigative barriers.
What is Bowtie?
This tool helps identify hazards by grouping sources of hazardous energy, including those that may not be immediately visible.
What is the energy wheel?
This principle requires risks to be reduced until further risk reduction would involve time, cost, or effort that is grossly disproportionate to the additional benefit gained.
What is ALARP, or As Low As Reasonably Practicable?
After additional controls are selected, the assessment team must recalculate this by reassessing consequence and likelihood using the same risk matrix.
