Tell me the story of how we got salah.
It was the time when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was facing intense hardship and pain. His emotions were tested with the passing of two of the most beloved people in his life beloved wife Khadija (RA), and his protector Uncle, Abu Talib.
In that night when Prophet was sleeping in kabah. Angel Jibra’eel(AS) woke prophet and led him to a white beast called Buraq and started his journey to Masjid Al Aqsa.Jibra’eel (as) stopped the Buraq and told Prophet (PBUH) to pray at few places to emphasise the importance of visiting the places in which Allah (swt) bestowed his bounties upon his pious people.
When finally arriving at Masjid al-Aqsa, the Prophet (PBUH) was informed that all the Prophets from the time of Adam to the time of Isa was brought to pray behind him, so that they know the superiority of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Second part of night of Miraj
During the second part of the Night of Miraj, Prophet Muhammad’s rose to the heavens with Jibra’eel (AS). He met eight prophets in the seven heavens. Each prophet greeted Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) with, “Welcome, O’ pious Prophet and pious brother!” [Bukhari]
When he finally reached the highest level in the heavens, he was brought into the divine presence of Allah, alone at Sidratul Muntaha (a boundary beyond which none may pass) — it was here that Allah gave this ummah the gift of compulsory Salah.
It is also narrated in Al-Bukhaari (349) and Muslim (162) the famous hadeeth of the Isra’ (Prophet’s Night Journey) in which it is mentionedthat the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said:
“Then Allah revealed what He revealed to me, and enjoined fifty prayers on me every day and night. I came back down to Moosa (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and he said: What did your Lord enjoin upon your ummah? I said: Fifty prayers. He said: Go back to your Lord and ask Him to reduce it… I kept going back and forth between my Lord, may He be blessed and exalted, and Moosa (peace be upon him), until He said: ‘O Muhammad, they are five prayers each day and night, for every prayer there will be a tenfold (reward), and that is fifty prayers.”
The scholars agreed that the five daily prayers were not made obligatory until this night.
This is how the salah is made obligatory. May Allah grant us the strength to battle laziness and sleep, so we may Pray every day.
