NO. It's perfectly fine to not be happy about directions. The important thing is that your response is respectful. You can respectfully disagree too! Communicate that at an appropriate time and place with respectful tone and language.

No, the economy RESETS every Monday. You must spend all the money you have on Friday.

What if I'm struggling in class and need a break?

You can ask for a 5 minute break! You can stay where you are, put your head down, read a physical book, or draw quietly. If it would help you to take a 5 minute walk, we could do that too.

What are 3 ways you can show respect to staff?

  • Listen when a staff member is speaking or giving directions.
  • Use appropriate tone and language
  • Never yell at, swear at, threaten, or insult staff
  • Be honest, even if you made a mistake
  • If something feels unfair or you disagree with something we say or do, ask to talk to us 1:1 during a quiet time and use respectful language to voice your opinion.

Through announcements, and then wait for Ms. Simpson or Mr. Camil to come get you/give you the option of coming down to LA for advisory.

The MP3 Players LIVE in the LA. They shouldn't be brought around the school with you.

What are 3 ways you can show respect to your peers?

  • Respect others’ personal space. Everyone has a personal bubble. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
  • Never purposely annoy, provoke, or try to get a reaction out of someone.
  • If someone asks you to stop, STOP the FIRST TIME YOU ARE ASKED.
  • If you are having a hard time, remove yourself from the space with your peers around. 
  • Be kind and encouraging to each other.
  • Let your peers speak without interrupting or talking over them.

What is the consequence for asking for a dollar in any way? Including *subtly* showing a teacher you're doing something amazing, asking why someone else got a dollar, telling ms. simpson you should have earned a dollar for something, etc.

Why are the LA expectations what they are?

Some of us have accommodations on our IEP that say we need a quiet space to eat lunch. It's important that this space is that quiet space. ALSO, this is Ms. Simpson's lunch break so don't talk to her please :)

What can you do during breaks?

Read, put my head down and rest, listen to mp3 player, color/draw, eat a snack, do a core/arms workout, make a bracelet, play a card game, do a puzzle

  • Clean up after yourself and put things back where they belong
  • Keep your desk cleared and free of clutter
  • Put your backpack and coat WHERE THEY BELONG
  • Use the reset space and its tools appropriately
  • SHARE. Nothing in here belongs to you- take turns on chairs, beanbags, etc.
  • Keep your volume appropriate for the activity.
  • Take care of furniture and materials.
  • TRYING, even when something feels hard, give yourself a chance! Believe in yourself!

  • ASK FOR HELP and COMMUNICATE what you need/how you’re feeling

NO. You earn dollars for specific, exceptional actions. Not doing the minimum that is expected.

What else happens during advisory?

Counseling! We will be starting counseling NEXT WEEK. You will get the schedule this Friday so that you know when your day is/what to expect.

Are we allowed to bring friends up to the LA for lunch or play outside?

Quiet! Not 100% silent, but use a soft speaking voice if you need to speak so we are respectful of our peers!

What are respect checks? What happens if you get 3 in one day?

Respect checks are given when a staff member sees you being disrespectful in any way to staff, peers, a classroom, or yourself. We will always give you a warning before to give you a chance to fix it. If you earn 3 respect checks in one day, you get a lunch detention. 3 lunch detentions --> the next one is an after school detention

What are you NEVER allowed to do?

Give a dollar to someone else, steal someone else's money, gamble money, complain about dollars you didn't earn, compare your dollars to someone else's dollars, argue with staff about dollars
