What was your dependent variable in the plant experiment?
Mung bean height (Centimeters)
What did you measure everyday in your plant experiment?
Mung bean height
What is the process called when a seed sprouts and starts to grow?
Germination
What part of the plant does photosynthesis happen?
the leaf
What was your independent variable in the plant experiment?
Water, Light, or Fertilizer
What material did you use to measure mung bean height?
A ruler
What is a life cycle?
A life cycle are the different stages a plant or animal goes through in its life.
Photosythesis starts with what two ingredients?
Water (H2O) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
How many trials did you have for each group?
3
What units did you measure mung bean height in? What did the number represent?
Centimeters
What does a seed need to germinate? (3 things)
Moisture (water), the right temperature, and oxygen
Photosynthesis makes what two products?
Oxygen (O2) and Sugar / Glucose (C6H12O6)
Why is it important to have a control group?
To compare with the various experimental groups
What is a possible error that could happen when you collect plant height data?
One error could be
What is the process of getting the pollen from the flower of one plant to the flower of another? And why is it important for plants?
Pollination, and it is important because it allows the plant to be fertilized and make new seeds in order to make new plants.
What is the name of the pigment that makes plants green and allows them to absorb light?
Chlorophyll
What were three constants (things you kept the same) in your experiment and why was it important to have constants?
Possible answers: Soil, Plant pot, Water, Light, Seeds. Constants are important because by controlling those variables you can make sure only your independent variable is what changes between each group
We had three trials for each group. You will calculate the average height of each group for each day of the experiment. How do you calculate average?
Sum of all heights divided by 3
Plants grow from a seed. What are the three parts of a seed?
Embryo, Endosperm, and the seed coat.
Why is photosynthesis (and plants!) important for the planet and humans?
Photosynthesis and plants produce oxygen for us to breathe, they make sugar so that plants are the base of the food chain, herbivores eat plants and omnivores and carnivores eat them. Plants also make materials & medicine that humans use.
