Scenario: Your professor gives you an assignment but does not tell you when it is due.
“When is this assignment due?”
Scenario: Your boss gives you instructions for a task, but you do not understand what you are supposed to do.
“I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do. Could you please explain the task again?”
Scenario: Someone asks you a question, but you didn't hear what they said.
“Could you please repeat that?”
Scenario: Your professor explains an assignment, but you miss part of the instructions.
“Could you please repeat the instructions? I missed part of them.”
Scenario: You are working on a task and get stuck. You have tried to figure it out yourself but still don't know what to do.
“I’m having trouble with this part. Could you please help me?”
Scenario: A friend tells you how to get somewhere, but you don't understand the directions.
“I’m not sure I understand. Could you explain how to get there again?”
Scenario: You read the assignment directions, but you still don't understand what you need to do.
“I read the directions, but I’m still confused about what I need to do. Could you explain it another way?”
Scenario: Your boss explains a new task very quickly. You missed some of the instructions.
“Could you slow down and explain that again? I missed part of the instructions.”
Scenario: You are talking to someone in a busy restaurant, but you cannot hear them because they are speaking quietly.
“I’m having trouble hearing you. Could you speak a little louder?”
Scenario: You are working on an assignment, but you are having difficulty finishing it by the deadline.
“I’m having trouble finishing the assignment by the deadline. Could we talk about what I need to do or whether I can have more time?”
Scenario: Your boss gives you three tasks to complete. You are not sure which one you should do first.
“I have a few tasks to complete. Which one would you like me to do first?”
Scenario: You are at a store and cannot find an item you need.
“Excuse me, could you help me find this item?”
Scenario: You are working on a group project. Your group members are making decisions without asking for your input, and you have an idea you want to share.
“I have an idea I’d like to share. Can I tell you what I’m thinking?”
Scenario: You are working on an important task, but you don't understand part of the instructions. You are also running out of time and need help.
“I’m having trouble understanding this part of the task, and I’m worried I won’t finish on time. Could you explain this part and let me know what I should focus on first?”
Scenario: You tell someone something, but they misunderstand what you meant. They respond based on the wrong information.
“I think I explained that wrong. What I meant was…”
