Although handprints were used as evidence as early as 300 BCE, the modern fingerprint system did not appear until the late nineteenth century. In 1892, the British scientist Francis Galton published a book showing that no two people share the same fingerprints, and that a person's prints do not change over a lifetime. Many people who speak two languages say they feel like a slightly different person depending on which language they are using. In one well-known study, bilingual Mexican Americans completed the same personality test twice, once in English and once in Spanish. When answering in English, they described themselves as more outgoing and more hard-working than when they answered in Spanish. Researchers call this "cultural frame switching." They believe that when bilingual people change language, they also switch to the values and expectations of the culture connected with that language.
