These 2 things are mixed in the carburetor before proceeding to the cylinder. Hint: one is a liquid and one is a gas.
What are air (the gas) and gasoline (the liquid) ?
This dirty gaseous substance is left over after combustion and needs to be removed from the cylinder.
What is exhaust gases.
This gaseous substance that we normally breathe is compressed in the cylinder.
What is air?
This stroke is where the engine receives energy from the burning fuel and air in the cylinder.
What is the Power Stroke?
This shaft has irregularly shaped lobes on it and it opens and closes the valves.
What is the cam shaft?
The carburetor meters small amounts of gas through these tiny ports or holes.
What are jets?
This part muffles or reduces the loud noise exhaust gasses make when exiting the engine.
What is the muffler?
This liquid is mixed with the air in the carburetor before entering the cylinder where it is compressed with the air.
What is gasoline.
During the power stroke the piston moves towards or moves away from the combustion chamber/spark plug.
What is moves away?
This part of the small engine is where the spark plug is screwed into and it is bolted to the engine block with large sturdy bolts.
What is the head?
This part opens and closes and allows the gas and air mixture to enter the cylinder, then closes to seal the cylinder.
What is the intake valve?
This part opens after the power stroke to allow the exhaust gasses to leave the cylinder and exit the engine through the muffler.
What is the exhaust valve.
True or false. A small engine will run even if it can't produce any compression.
What is False.
This round, flat, heavy spinning part of the engine, that is attached to the crankshaft conserves energy for the engine to operate/run between the power strokes.
(Conservation of inertia)
What is the flywheel?
This part inside the crankcase help in splashing engine oil all around, thus lubricating the many moving parts within the small internal combustion engine.
What is the oil slinger or oil dipper?
Air is cleaned before entering the carburetor by passing though this.
What is the air filter?
True or False, Exhaust gas is poisonous in concentrated amounts, so do not run an engine in a closed space for any long period of time.
What is True?
These narrow round pieces of metal fit on the outside of the piston in grooves and seal the piston to the cylinder wall.
What are Piston Rings?
The power stroke ends when the piston reaches this point, and then the exhaust stroke would begin.
What is at bottom dead center?
Some motors are equipped with this mechanism that reduces compression when starting, thus making the small engine easier to start.
What is compression release/ or relief?
This springy engine part provides pressure to close the valves.
What are valve springs?
The exhaust valve is made of this metal.
What is stellite or cobalite
At this point in the compression stroke, the air and gas mixture is compressed the most.
What is Top Dead Center?
This rod or arm connects the piston to the crankshaft and transfers the power/force from the piston to the crankshaft.
What is the connecting rod/arm.
This one way valve is responsible for maintaining a vacuum withing the crankcase.
What is a crankcase breather valve?
