SMART guess. To have all of that happen to one person during one day could certainly cause it to be the worst day ever.

UNEXPECTED behavior. When you're having a conversation with someone, you don't expect these behaviors because it looks like they are not listening to you.

B. When someone gives you something, it is expected that you say thank you in acknowledgement. Grandpa's question is his clue to help you remember that a thank you is needed.

WACKY guess. The sun is shining and there are no clouds in the sky. Even the radio is reporting that it should be a beautiful day. Susie has made a WACKY guess by thinking it will rain when no signs are indicating this.
Someone asks you to leave them alone but you keep bothering them anyway. Is this an EXPECTED or UNEXPECTED behavior?
UNEXPECTED behavior. If someone asks you to leave him alone, it is EXPECTED that you would walk away. By continuing to bother him, you are using UNEXPECTED behaviors and causing others to have weird thoughts about your behavior.
You ask some of the boys if you can join their basketball game. One of them says, "Our teams are even right now." What does the boy mean?
C. When the boy says that the teams are even, he is telling you that if you were to join in, the teams would become uneven and it would give a team an unfair advantage.
It is Tuesday morning. Matthew and his brother have left their house and are walking toward the end of the street. Both boys have backpacks and lunch boxes. Susie thinks Matthew and his brother are on their way to school. Is this a SMART guess or WACKY guess?
SMART guess. Susie knows it is a school day and the boys are headed to the bus stop. They have backpacks and lunch boxes which they need for school.
You see your friend on Monday morning and start a conversation with him by asking him what he did over the weekend. Is this an EXPECTED or UNEXPECTED behavior?
EXPECTED behavior. When you see your friends, it is an expected behavior to talk about what happened over the weekend or the previous night especially if you know someone did something really exciting.
You are sitting at the table in a small group and the person sitting next to you is tapping his fingers and stomping his feet. Is he using whole body listening? What tells you this?
He is not using whole body listening. His fingers and feet are not still. He needs to practice keeping his feet and fingers still to show he is using whole body listening.
Your class is going on a field trip. Your teacher goes over the rules and says, "Please remember that you are fourth, fifth and sixth graders." What does your teacher mean?
C. By the fourth, fifth and sixth grade, you have learned the expected behaviors when on a field trip. It is expected that you are aware of and follow these behaviors without reminders.
After school on Tuesday, Jan puts on a pink leotard with tights and ballet shoes. Matthew thinks Jan is going to ballet class. Did Matthew make a SMART guess or WACKY guess?
SMART guess. Ballerinas wear leotards, tights and ballet shoes when dancing. Since it is a weekday afternoon, it is a SMART guess to think she is going to a ballet class.
A fellow student is talking about the new puppy he got and you say "Wow, that's cool!! What kind of dog did you get?". Is this an EXPECTED or UNEXPECTED behavior?
EXPECTED behavior. By asking what kind of dog he got, you are showing that you are listening with both your brain and heart. You are not only thinking but also caring about what he is saying by asking a question that shows you were listening. Your friend will be really happy to answer the question.
You sit down next to a group of kids in the library. One of them says, "We're studying for a test." What does this mean?
It means that they came to the library from some quiet time because they need to study.
Kenny is standing in line outside of the art classroom waiting to go in. He is jumping up and down to peek into the windows. He does not hear the teacher asking him to stop because he is also singing very loudly. Is Kenny using whole body listening?
NO. Kenny is not listening with his body, ears or mouth. His body should be still and facing forward, his mouth should not be making any noises and his ears should be listening for any directions being given. Kenny needs practice with whole body listening.
Michelle has her bathing suit and flip flops on, is carrying a towel and a bag with a radio, sunscreen and a book. Susie thinks Michelle is going to the library. Did Susie make a SMART guess or a WACKY guess?
WACKY guess. Michelle is going somewhere where she will be swimming like a waterpark, the beach or a pool.
You see your friend George wearing his clothing inside out-you know this because the tags are on the outside of his clothing and you can easily see them. Is George doing an EXPECTED or UNEXPECTED behavior?
UNEXPECTED behavior. We wear our clothing the right way with tags on the inside.
Alyssa did not study for her science test. She played video games instead of studying. When she did not pass the test, her teacher said, “Alyssa, it’s your own fault.” What does it mean?
Because Alyssa chose to not study, the grade she got was the result. Her teacher may not have known Alyssa played videos, but she knew Alyssa did not study and therefore got the grade she deserved; that it was Alyssa's fault she didn't pass the test.
