What is our Cell Phone Policy?

A camper asks you to accompany them to the restroom, what should you always remember to do when taking a camper/s to the restroom?

Make sure you have another camp counselor/rec aide/another camper with you. While you are to make sure the campers are never left unattended, it is also important to note that you should never be left alone with a camper.

Counselors are allowed to be in the water or beside the pool, but they do NOT have to watch campers. That's what the lifeguards are for. T/F

False. If you're in the water, keep an eye on everyone and play a game or two! If you're poolside, engage with campers when you can or keep an eye out for anyone struggling.

How many campers are enrolled in each week and how many groups will there be?

There are 60 campers per week and a total of 6 groups (10 kids per group).

What is considered appropriate work attire.

- Neat and clean staff shirt, jeans, and shorts. (No rips or passed fingertips)

- Closed toes shoes; sneakers.

- Only division issued caps or visors may be worn. 

- Staff shirts or jackets are not to be modified in any manner.

When walking, where should staff members be when leading their camp group?

A camp staff member is at the front of the group and a camp staff member is at the back.

If a camper has allergies, what should they have with them? 

An EpiPen in case of emergencies!

Who do you contact if you are running late or calling in sick? How long in advance do you contact if you are calling in sick? What method are you using to contact?

Contact Destiny by phone call. No later than one and one-half (1.5) hours before the start of the scheduled shift.

This is the ratio of camp staff to campers on a field trip.

Ratios for field trips are always 10 campers to 2 staff.

As campers are playing Basketball inside the gymnasium, a camper trips and hits their head on the slippery floor. The camper says they are fine and continue to play. What steps should be taken and considered? 

  • First have the camper sit or stand and give an ice pack right away to prevent swelling. 
  • Then, make sure they are not feeling dizziness, nausea, and that their vision is not blurred.
    • If any of these symptoms prevail, call parent/guardian immediately and let Destiny know.
  • While they are sitting with the ice pack, fill out a Boo Boo report and conversate with the camper to ensure they remain conscious.
  • Check in on them frequently throughout the day to ensure they don’t feel the symptoms

All campers must pass a ___ if they want to be in the deep end (7 feet). What does the camper receive when they pass?

We have life vest available for anyone needing it, and anyone who works at the pool can help fit them.

What should be done if a camper arrives at camp without the required camp shirt?


Notify the parent/guardian that they will be required to purchase an additional shirt for $7.00

In the event a child is unaccounted for or lost at a field trip, what should you do?

  1. Consult with group or other staff. 

  1. Re-trace your steps (did you stop for food, souvenirs, or a bathroom break?) 

  1. Search pre-determined meeting area. 

  1. Report lost child to security; and contact your immediate Coordinator and/or Supervisor.

A group of campers have asked you to apply sunscreen on them and assist them to zip up their bathing suit. What should you do and why?

If a child has their own lotion-type sunscreen they must apply it themselves or ask their buddy to help. City Staff should not be applying lotion on any camp participant. Spray sunscreen is the best and encourage campers and parents to bring that!

A camper has asked you to take a cute picture with him/her just for memories. You decide to take the picture and upload it on your public Social Media platform and mention @WehoRec. The parent of the camper has not agreed and has not approved of the picture and wants to talk to the Supervisor. What did the staff do wrong? 

The staff did not follow the Cell Phone Policy and Internet and Social Media Policy.

The staff must have never posted, tagged, or publish any pictures of campers on the internet or social media platforms.

During a field trip to Knott’s Berry Farm, you're leading a group of campers. Some need to use the restroom, while others wish to re-ride an attraction before the line grows. How should you manage this situation?

Take the kids to the restroom first.

  • Due to staffing and protocol overall, we do not split the group up.
  • Explain to the campers why we are taking the campers to the restroom first.

You see a camper crying because other campers are making fun of their artwork and are name-calling. They want to go home and don’t feel like talking to any of the staff. What are the group of campers failing to follow? How would you manage this situation? 

- Comfort the camper.

- Reassure them that the artwork is amazing.

- Let the camper know that the bully will face corresponding repercussions. 

- Convey our intent to keep camp’s environment and safety.

- Disciplinary conversation with bully

- Reminder of the Code of Conduct (C.O.C) and behavioral expectations. 

- Speak to the parent/guardian of the bully and show them the C.O.C.
