What is the dress code for volunteering/What do I need to wear?
Business casual - Henry Ford Health tshirt, khakis or black pants, clean tennis shoes, and your volunteer badge
How do you punch in and out for your shift?

VSys Kiosk Link on a designated hospital computer (you will be shown this on your training day)
Your Kiosk ID # is on the sticker on the back of your badge.
DO use your volunteer meal perk! Where can you use this perk, and how much do you get?
You can use up to $8 as a meal credit in the Cafeteria (main hospital, 2nd floor). Use it or lose it after each shift (it does not accumulate or roll over). Show the cashier your volunteer badge and they will comp your total up to $8.
A visitor appears frustrated and upset. What is the best first response?
Stay calm and listen first. Try to learn what they need and help if you can, if not, reassure them you will get them to a team member who will take great care of them.
What do you need to bring back with you on your first day (or turn in before)?
Signed Compliance Packet (complete with quiz answers and any required parent signatures)
Where do I clip my badge?
Top collar of your shirt/shoulder level. Do NOT clip it to a belt loop.
What do you do if you forget to punch in or out?
Email Jenny to report your hours and they will get manually entered
DO make connections in your department. Why is this important?
The connections you make with current team members can help you network for references or letters of recommendation. It also helps you build a positive reputation in a large organization.
How should you respond if you do not know the answer to a visitor's question?
State that you are a volunteer and you are happy to connect them with a team member who can assist.
Bonus points: Find out the answer after and you'll be better equipped if that question comes up again in the future!
What does it mean to act professionally as a volunteer?
Be on time and on schedule.
Show up with the appropriate dress code.
Make eye contact and have a pleasant demeanor toward all patients, families, and staff.
Ask questions if you are unsure, do not guess or assume.
What would be an example of INAPPROPRIATE dress code items?
Ex. Jeans, Leggings, Sweats/Athletic wear, Shorts

What should you do if a patient asks for help that is outside your volunteer role?
What are two ways volunteers can provide excellent customer service?
-Ask if there is anything you can help them with
-Walk with them to their destination vs. pointing or giving verbal directions
-Have an empathetic mindset always since we don't know what challenges someone is facing
