  • Aluminum - straighter than wood and does not warp like wood, but can bend

  • Fiberglass - stands up to more abuse, but heaviest of all materials

Why should you never dry fire a bow?

When you draw back the bowstring, energy is created and stored in the bow. When you release the bowstring, this energy is transferred to the arrow and sends it zipping towards the target. When you dry fire a bow, the energy goes back to the bow creating strong vibrations throughout the entire bow. These vibrations can cause catastrophic damage to any part of the bow.

The most common injury from shooting short arrows is to put the arrow through your hand, forearm or wrist. Too short of an arrow could also fall off the rest as you shoot them, and they could go right into someone else.
