Moses told the leaders to each bring a walking stick or rod. They put the sticks in the tabernacle overnight. The next morning, when they went back inside, only Aaron's stick had miraculously grown green leaves, flowers and almonds. This was God's way of making it perfectly clear that He chose Aaron to be the High Priest.

God no longer wants us to offer the blood of animals, that will not take away our sins, but we still need forgiveness. There is no longer a sacrifice we can make to seek forgiveness because someone already paid the ultimate sacrifice. Who and what was it?

Who is our scapegoat?
On the day of atonement- the HP would present 2 goats. One goat was sacrificed as a sin offering to make atonement for their sins. The 2nd goat, the scapegoat, the HP would confess the sins of the people over the goat, symbolized transferring the guilt of the people onto the goat. Once transferred the goat was led away into the wilderness, to symbolize that their sins were carried away.
