Tariffs were used during the depression to enforce Protectionism. This was to force people to purchase local goods instead of from overseas. The short term effect was Canada began earning a little bit more money however in the long term other countries did so aswell causing reduced trade and worsening the depression.

What were work camps and how much did they pay.
Work camps were places where unemployed people were sent, typically in an isolated area, where they helped on projects such as creating roads, clearing land, digging drainage ditches. In return they were paid 20 cents a day and were given food and beds.
