The community uses the word "Release" instead of "death" using a gentle word that hides the dark truth and stops citizens from feeling fear or sadness.

The whole community wears their assigned clothes because this makes sure that no one is jealous or higher up than others.

Each family can only have two children, this helps the elders contol the population size.

The lighter identical twin is released at birth because the community cannot have duplicates, so the lighter twin is killed to maintain perfect order. Also for popultion control

Everyone has to have assigned careers, spouses and family units to prevent frequent mistakes, conflict and emotional pain (e.g. divorce, miscarige).

Without individual birthdays the elders can ensure no individuality, uniqness or power/outrage will come.

Babies who do not meet the community's standards are released because the community only allows healthy and strong children to survive.
What does Gabriel symbolise in the giver and why?
Gabriel symbolises innocince and uniqness because he is little and done nothing wrong but he is unique and doesn't fit there standards so he is almost released.

There are no hills or mountains so that the ground is flat for transporting food and goods making it easier and safer.

Citizens are not allowed to lie because honesty helps the Elders maintain trust, order, and control over the community.

Citizens celebrate at the Ceremony of Release because they are taught that it is a happy event sending them to “elsewhere” because they have fulfilled their job, rather than the person's death.

Light eyes symbolise that you have the ability to see beyond,feel emotion and recieve memmory. The Giver, Jonas and Gabe have it.

They remove colour so that there isn’t jealousy or choice causing hate and envy between citizens.
