Children call him Boo. As a young boy, he had been a pleasant, good-natured boy, but had fallen into the company of the unruly Cunningham boys and had created some mischief. As punishment his father had sentenced him to a lifetime confinement to their house. Though having gained the reputation of a lunatic, he is basically a harmless, well-meaning person.

Charles Baker Harris . He is Jem and Scout's neighborhood friend. He is from Meridian, Mississippi, but visits his Aunt Rachel in Maycomb each summer. He is a great fibber, and can “tell the big ones”. He loves to act out scenes from books and movies, and is especially fascinated by Boo Radley.

He is an unpleasant character who blames the rare Alabama snowfall on children's bad behavior. The children make a snowman that resembles him. He redeems himself by risking his life when Miss Maudie's house burns. While truing to put out the fire and saving some of the furniture, he becomes trapped and then he escapes out the second-story window.

She lives across the street from the Finch's. She is an important female role model to Scout. She is friendly and tolerant. Scout spends time with her when Dill and Jem go off to do 'boy' things. When her house burns down, she is actually happy to know that she can have more garden space

She is Atticus's sister who is strong-willed and devoted to her family. She is the perfect Southern lady, and her commitment to propriety and tradition often leads her to clash with Scout. She is constantly nagging Atticus about how he raises Scout. She embodies the local prejudices of the Maycomb society. She doesn’t think Calpurnia is a suitable mother figure to the children.

He is a wealthy white man who prefers to live among black folks, rather than white folks, because of white folks' hypocrisy. He has children with a black woman. He leads a double life by pretending he is an alcoholic so that the people of Maycomb will have an excuse for his behavior, but in reality he only drinks Coca-Cola out of a paper bag.

She works as a housekeeper for the Finches, and is a mother figure to Scout. She taught Scout to write. She leads a double life. At the Finch home, she is well-spoken and practices refined manners, but in her community, she speaks in a different dialect.

Boo Radley's older brother who comes back to live with the family when his father dies. When he sees that Boo is leaving gifts for the children in a knothole in a tree, he fills it up, deciding it best for him to not have any contact with the outside world.

She is a racist elderly women who lives down the street from the Finch’s. Scout describes her as plain hell. Jem cuts off all the tops of her camellias because she calls his father a "negro lover." Atticus makes Jem read to her every day. She shows courage by tryng to overcome her morphine addiction.

He is the useless, brutal father of a bunch of children who have to live in extreme filth and shabbiness. He drinks away all the money received from the relief checks. He is foul-mouthed and arrogant. His daughter claims to be raped. He submits an innocent black man to trial and death, for the apparent concern over his daughter, for whom he has no great love or concern.

He appoints Atticus as Tom's defense council even when the job should have gone to another, less experienced, man. Like Atticus, he works within the system—and the system is broken.

She is Scout’s 2nd grade teacher who lectures the class on the evil of Hitler’s regime that persecutes the Jews, and expresses her dismay for singling out an ethnic group to target and oppress. She contrasts the American society with Germany under Hitler; she claims that in America, a free and democratic country, no one is discriminated against.

He is one of Bob Ewell's children. He is illiterate and can't spell his own name. He attends school only one day a year. When a flea crawls off his head, Miss Caroline becomes horrified. She tries to send him home to bathe and get rid of his lice, but the children explain that the Ewells only show up for the first day of school.
