What was the response of the president to the Nullification Crisis which developed through protests to the Tariff of Abominations and how did it contribute to the Civil War?
President Andrew Jackson responded by sending U.S. Navy ships to make sure South Carolinians paid the tariff. Although conflict was avoided, Southerners feared the federal government might use its powers to make slavery illegal. The result was the beginning of sectional tensions between the North and the South.
