Name the 3 subatomic particles.
Protons, neutrons and electrons.
What are the 3 primary colours of light?
Red, blue, green
Why does nuclear decay occur?
Due to the instability of the atom.
What is thermal energy?
Thermal energy is a type of energy an object has due to its temperature, measured in Joules.
What element is in period 2, group 2?
Beryllium
Electron configuration of potassium.
2, 8, 8, 1
What is reflection?
Reflection changes the direction that light travels
Which form of nuclear radiation has the highest penetration ;)
Gamma.
What is the formula for frequency using velocity and wavelength?
f= v/λ
How much in kg can Mr Diamond and Mr Wilson bench press combined?
<60kg
What's the charge of Al when it loses 3 electrons?
Al3+
What is refraction?
Refraction occurs when light changes speed as it travels through one medium into another medium with a different density, causing the light to bend.
What is alpha decay?
Alpha decay is when the atom emits a helium nucleus... 2 protons, 2 electrons.
What is convection?
Occurs in gases and liquids, and transfers heat through convection currents. These convection currents cycle around due to differences in temperature and density within the fluid
Name as many (current) Yr 9 science teachers as possible.
Mr Davis, Mr Gee, Ms Buhagier, Mrs Goraya, Mr Wilson, Mrs Jones, Ms Finnigan, Mr Pike, Ms/Dr Pradal, Mr Diamond, Dr Dale, Mr Burt, Mr Beiderstadt, Mr Dixon, Mr Grasby, Mr Lin
Definition of isotopes?
Isotopes are elements that change in atomic mass due to a change in neutrons. Protons and electrons stay the same therefore the element stays the same.
Why do we see most plants as green?
Plants absorb all wavelengths of light except for green which is reflected off and is why we see them as green.
What is beta decay?
Neutron into a proton and emits an electron.
What is radiation?
A method of heat transfer where heat waves (electromagnetic waves) are emitted by a heat source then absorbed by another object.
Sing as a group part of the school song for 30 seconds or lose 1000 points.
What is the definition of ions?
Ions are elements that want to lose or gain electrons to achieve a full outer shell (become more stable).
How does light travel?
Light does not need a medium to travel. It travels through electric and magnetic fields that oscillate simultaneously (moves regularly).
What is gamma decay?
Gamma decay is the emission of photons.
Define ultrasound
Sound where the frequency is too dang high for humans to percieve
BOMB
All members do 30 seconds of a just dance (your choice) or lose 1000 points.
