What is Evaporation?
the process where water absorbs thermal energy (heat) and turns into an invisible gas called water vapor. Which allows it to rise into the air
What is an oil spill? And where do they happen?
An oil spill refers to the accidental or intentional release of oil into the environment.
They most commonly occur in oceans and coastal waters, they can also happen on land and in lakes
What is the difference between a landfill and a waste dump?
A landfill is permitted land where trash is piled and it has clay liners that prevent soil and groundwater contamination
A waste dump is unpermitted and basically out in the open

How do ocean oil spills affect our enviroment?

Oil spills poisons wildlife, disrupt food chains, and sink to the seafloor to contaminate ocean sediments for decades
It also harms the animals by coating them in oil which messues up their fur/feathers. The toxins also creates health defects in animals which also kills them off.
What is Leachate? How does it form?
two spins if you can tell me what happens if Leachate is not handled properly.
Leachate is the toxic chemical compond that comes from the landfills/waste dumps. It forms when rain or snow.
If not managed properly it can contaminate our ground water that turns into our drinking water toxic which can cause us serious health issues.
What is the water cycle and what is added for it to happen?
the continuous never ending cycle where water moves by Changing states using the sun’s heat and gravity

Trailing Rainbow: adhesion - the substances you used showed adhesion by seeing which substances could climb up the paper towel
Penny Lab: Cohesion - you measured which substances are most cohesive by seeing how many drops of water could fit on a penny without it spilling off
What is ground water?

the process after percolation and is where all that water travels to and is stored underwater
Some groundwater feeds into bigger bodies of waters like lakes and rivers or sometimes just stays there
How do oil spills effect the water cycle?

Evaporation: The thick layer of oil creates a film that restricts sunlight and prevents water molecules from escaping as vapor.
Condensation: Because less water evaporates from the ocean surface clouds form less. Furthermore, volatile oil components that evaporate can mix with the air, which can alter cloud formations and precipitation
Precipitation: Reduced moisture in the air spill-affected regions can lead to acidic rain and even heavy rainfalls making it even harder to clean the oil spills
How can waste dumps and landfills affect evaporation?
(Think about how we can get rid of trash indefinatly)
Sometimes the only way to get rid of trash is to burn it. However when trash burns it creates a toxic gas composed of carbon monoxide and methane which creates green house gasses

When it rains, water drops stick to a pane of glass. Adhesion keeps the droplet attached to the glass, preventing it from immediately falling, while cohesion pulls the water molecules tightly together, forming a rounded droplet shape

What is percolation and what is infiltration?
Infiltration is entirely about the water entering the ground aka infiltrating the ground
Percolation is the journey water takes after it has already entered the soil until its able to reach it’s own water source

How does climate change effct the water cycle?

3. Melting ice: Warmer weather shrinks glaciers and ice caps, which decreases freshwater supplies and raises sea levels
