American Civil War: 1861-1865. The Southern United States wanted to secede, to withdraw and leave a political group, and form the Confederate United States. In response, there was divide between the North (the Union) and the South (the Confederacy).
The cause/reasoning behind the war was the status of slavery, someone who cannot quit working for another person and is treated as property. This was regarding all aspects of slavery: Acquiring, punishing, maintaining, treating, and expanding slaves. The Southern United States expressed their desire to secede once President Abraham Lincoln declared anti-slavery.

Describe the event in Boston that introduced Music to the public school system.
While in Boston, he noticed that there was no music in schools. He challenged the school board and drew support for the community. He took on a student choir for a whole year and taught them for free. No one believed that outside of church that a choir would survive as well as perform at a satisfactory level. One year later, outside of the front of the Boston School District building, he put on free concert for the public to hear. The performance was wonderful and the community demanded music to be put into schools. The school board then adopted music into the schools. This is how he became appointed for the Boston School System as the music superintendent.
