How many people must a staff member be accompanied by when with youth?
At least 2 other people. Known as the “Rule of Three”
What are we required to wear on every shift?
A YMCA staff shirt or a jacket, hoodie, with the YMCA logo visible. This helps our members, their families and the schools identify our staff members.
When ensuring we are in staff to child ratio, whose age do we use to determine the level of supervision?
The youngest child in the group will be used to determine the staff/student ratio.
When is personal phone use allowed?
On an approved break. We should not be using phones for personal use while supervising our children. Phones are allowed for work related things like Brightwheel.
Who is not allowed to be left alone for group supervision?
Any staff member under the age of 18.
Proper footwear while working a shift?
Sneakers or something adjacent you can run in. We should be participating and playing with the children during program.
Our staff to child ratio without a 4 year old included in the group?
1:10
If you need to call in, what is the appropriate time to call in by?
Prior to 9pm the day before or before 6am the day of the noted absence.
Ratio for a group that includes a 4 year old member?
1:8 ratio. Make sure to take extra care to ensure we are in this ratio when a 4 year old is present with our group.
