What is language?
The form for naming multiple items of the same kind at once
What is plural?
A fossilized chunk of language which has fixed meaning, which might not be transparent
What is an idiom?
A cognitive phenomenon, in which we compare separate words or meanings, and link them to extend or create meaning
What is a metaphor?
A distinctive kind of a language spoken in a certain area
What is a dialect?
The smallest unit of meaning
What is a morpheme?
A single word or a set of words grouped together in a dictionary or lexicon
What is a lexeme?
The study of meaning, which also focuses on the relations between linguistic expressions
What is semantics?
The non-standard use of a word, or the creation of new words (sometimes even borrowing from other languages)
What is slang?
A combination of words which cannot be syntactically rearranged (e.g. put on, ex-husband)
What is a compound word?
A new word created to be able to be able to express a new idea/item
What is a neologism?
Two words which have an uneven relation between them, one being subordinate and the other hyperordinate/belonging to a higher rank
