Soon after the death of his first wife, Hadhrat Khadija (ra), the Holy Prophet (saws) saw in a revelation a representation of Hadhrat Ayesha (ra).
What was this representation?
After Hadhrat Khadija’s (ra) passing, the Holy Prophet (saws) realized the importance of marrying again, not just for setting a model of superior domestic relations for the community, but so that his wives could facilitate the teachings of Islamic injunctions. The Holy Prophet (saws) prayed to Allah T’ala for guidance and as a result, he saw in a dream Gabriel, who presented him with a green silk handkerchief and said, “this is your wife, in this world and the hereafter.” When the Holy Prophet (saws) looked at the handkerchief, he saw a picture of Hadhrat Ayesha (ra).
