The Cold War was a non-direct war between the US and the USSR on Communism. America wanted to stop the spread of Communism and so they declared war on it as a whole. The Truman Doctrine was a U.S. pledge that President Truman issued to provide aid to nations threatened by communist subversion, which implemented the policy of containment.

Containment was the concept of containing the spread of communism.
