Name 3 structures OR organs OR glands in the female reproductive system
Cervix, fallopian tube, vaginal canal, ovaries, uterus
Where are protons, neutrons and electrons located in an atom?
Protons and Neutrons are located in the nucleus, electrons are located outside, orbiting the nucleus
What is the pH range of an acid?
a pH of 0-6
The unit for measuring force is
Newtons (N)
Which variable belongs on the x-axis
Independent Variable
True or False: Chromosomes are made up of DNA
TRUE
Draw a Bhor model for oxygen
Model should have 8 protons, 8 Neutrons in the neuleus.
In the first electron shell, there are two electrons
In the second electron shell there should be 6 electrons
What are two key characteristics of a combustion reaction?
They all contain oxygen as a reactant and energy as a product
e.g. Iron + oxygen --> Light Energy + Iron oxide.
What is the difference bewteen a scalar and a vector quantity?
Scalar has magnitude and vectors have magnitude and direction
How can you ensure reliability in an experiment?
Repeating the experiment more than three times
What is the difference between an allele and a gene?
A gene is a segment of DNA (or RNA in some cases) that contains the instructions for building one or more specific proteins or functional RNA molecules
An allele is a specific variant or version of a gene. Alleles can be thought of as different flavors of a gene. They are alternative forms of the same gene that may result in variations in a particular trait which an individual receives from their parents.
Valency of an atom is determined by ____
Number of electrons in the outer shell
What is the key characteristic of a neutralisation reaction?
e.g. HCl + NaOH --> NaCl + H2O
An acid and alkali (base) will neutralise the pH of each other and produce a salt and water.
Which one of Newton's Laws of Motion explains why you should use a seatbelt?
Newton's First Law of Motion
What does the term validity mean in science?
Validity is a measure taken in science to determine whether you are measuring what you intend to measure.
e.g. If you were collecting data on how fast Usain Bolt can run, you would not collect data when he is swimming in a pool.
How many daughter cells does Meiosis produce?
4
Name this compound MgO
Magnesium Oxide
What is the key characteristic of a synthesis reaction?
e.g. Na + Cl --> NaCl
A synthesis reaction occurs when two or more reactants combine to form a single product.
A soccer player is preparing to take a penalty kick during a match. The player kicks the ball with great force, and the ball accelerates rapidly, resulting in a powerful shot on goal. Identify which of Newton's laws of motion is most applicable to this situation and explain your choice.
Newton's second law F=ma
Andrea is collecting data on how mass influences acceleration using a toy cart and track. She chooses mass intervals of 50g, 100g and 150g. She collects time data for each set.
Name the independent variable, Dependent variable and the control variable
Independent: Mass
Dependent: Time (Acceleration once calculations are completed)
Control: The track and the cart
There is a grasshopper species that some birds enjoy eating. During a drought hey are predominantly brown, however, a small amount are green.
5 years pass and there is a lot of rain. Now most of the grasshoppers are green and only some are brown.
Identify the mechanism of evolution and explain why the majority of grasshoppers change colour
This mechanism is Natural Selection.
Brown grasshoppers would camouflage during the drought as the grass they live in is brown and dry. The green grasshoppers are easily spotted by predators and are eaten by the birds.
After rain, the grass is green and green grasshoppers can easily camouflage. Green grasshoppers are no longer as susceptible to predators they produce green offspring, leaving brown grasshoppers and their offspring less likely to camouflage and more susceptible to predators.
Name the two products in this precipitation reaction:
Lead Nitrate (L) + Potassium Iodide (L) -->
Lead Nitrate (L) + Potassium Iodide (L) --> Lead iodide (s) + Potassium Nitrate (L)
What is they key characteristic of a decomposition reaction?
e.g. 2H2O2 --> O2 + H2O
Chemical decomposition, or chemical breakdown, is the process or effect of simplifying a single chemical entity into two or more fragments. It is the opposite of a synthesis reaction.
What are newton's three laws of motion
1. An object will will stay in motion unless a force acts on it.
2. The force on an object is equal to its mass times its acceleration. F=ma
3. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
Michelle wanted to gather data to compare how tall two types of plants will grow over a two-week period. She collects height data for both Plant A and Plant B every day for this two-week period.
What type of graph should Michelle draw to represent her data AND what variables would she place on the X and Y axis?
Michelle would draw a line graph with a line of best fit (does not connect the dots exactly)
Both variables for Plant A and B are drawn on the graph as two separate lines.
Number of days is on the x-axis and plant height is graphed on the Y axis.
