Why is idol worshipping displeasing to God? When people worship idols, such as bowing down to a wooden statue, whom do they actually worship?

God desired for us to worship Him alone. When people worship idols they are worshipping a created thing rather than the Creator. Leviticus 26 “You shall not make for yourselves idols, nor shall you raise up for yourselves a graven image or pillar, nor shall you place a stone figure in your land to bow down to it; for I am Jehovah your God.”

Because each of them had a lot of flocks and herds and tents, which grew and grew in numbers. There was not enough land to support both families.

He turned his nation of Babel into a kingdom so that he could be a ruler. He used his authority to do things for his own interest, not God’s. He not only brought in idolatrous things, but also used human government to lead people away from God to serve idols instead.

The people were building the tower of Babel to rebel against God, to renounce God, and to make a name for themselves.

He had left Ur but only because his father took the family to Haran, not because he was following what God had told him. He also took Lot with him while God told him to go from his relatives.
