Escort the offender to the VS. Gather information. Get their name, their enemies name(s). Inform supervisor. Conduct rehousing request along with a LPCC disciplinary write up.

You are working on 2nd floor. You are conducting a check in 2E housing unit which is a lockdown pod. As you pass cell 6, you see an offender who is hanging from the top bunk with a sheet around his neck and he is turning blue. What do you do?

Call the code via tactical radio, 27-33.

Wait for at least two other deputies to respond before opening the cell door.

Ensure that no one is out for their hour, open the cell and assist said offender.

Check for breathing. Look, listen, feel for the rise and fall of the chest. If needed, start chest compressions. Wait for medical to arrive.

The use of the Observation Room to visually observe offender behavior is prohibited when offenders are secured in their cells.

Visual observations shall not be conducted consecutively.

To be dressed in their LPCC Jumper with nothing on their head/face/neck, show the deputy their ID cards, remain standing outside of their cell door, standing quietly until the deputy completes roll-call and verifies everyone's well-being.

An offender states he was promised to be let out again to call his lawyer even though he has already come out for his hour. The offender states, "If you do not let me come out to make my phone call, I will flood my cell." What do you do?

Listen to the offender. See if you can de-escalate the situation by talking to the offender. 

Document the offender's behavior in Note Active. 

If the offender does begin to flood their cell, call Master Control via tactical radio to turn the water off in 1B. 

If you must turn the water off manually, retrieve the dottie (screwdriver) from Watch Command and notify the supervisor.

What is missing from this report?

On January 30th 2026 Corporal Jayden Pain was assigned to work 1st floor from 0600-1800 hours at Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

At approximately 1227 hours, Corporal Pain observed Offender Kenny Hart lying on the ground in his cell having seizure-like symptoms via surveillance camera. Corporal Pain then called the Signal 36 (Medical Emergency) code via tactical radio.

At approximately 1228 hours, the following deputy staff responded to Corporal Pain's request for immediate medical assistance in HO housing unit: Lieutenant Jim Crayon, Sergeant Riva Caine, Deputy Chance DeVille, Deputy Gabe Mills, Deputy Tara Rubin, Deputy Eric Small.

 Offender Hart was cleared by medical at approximately 1234 and remained in his cell.

Signal 36 was cleared by Sergeant Caine at approximately 1235 hours.

Corporal Pain has nothing further to report at this time.

Understand that the offenders will not listen to you. Keep your composure. 

Shut the cell door. Exit the housing unit and inform a supervisor. Rack down the rest of the housing unit. Call for additional staff to enter the housing unit to place the offenders in their assigned cells.
