One of the defining aspects of nuclear families in the 1950s is strict gender roles that restricts women's societal and economic roles. Explain the events that led up to this tendency.
After WW2, The U.S. didn’t need to produce goods at anywhere near the speed or volume they did during the war. The economy wasn’t in shambles either; unlike many countries in Europe, where the war was physically fought in, the U.S. didn’t suffer relatively massive property, human, or economic losses, and as such it had no need for the extra workforce facilitated by the war. Things started to go back to the way they were pre-war, and millions of American women either voluntarily or involuntarily left the workforce.
Explain how Cinderella is a form of propaganda for conformity.
Despite her stepmother and stepsisters trying to do everything in their power to stop her, Cinderella ends up marrying the Grand Duke. In some versions of this movie, the ugliness of the stepsisters is explicitly stated, but what all versions do have in common is the fact that Cinderella is beautiful. This might’ve shaped Cinderella’s viewers into thinking that beautiful people always prevail, while those that seem out of the ordinary do not.
