Is this showing independence? On the rug, you keep making silly faces and eye contact with a friend to get them to laugh. When everyone goes to their seats, you go to your friend and start whispering and talking.

Independence or not and what would need to change?

No! This is distracting others and not focusing on what you are supposed to be doing and being off task. Showing independence would be focusing on what the teacher is saying, quietly walking to your seat and getting started on work. No talking to others if that was the direction.

How could you use Try 3 Before Me in this situation?: Y

You were going to the bathroom and missed directions. It is now quiet independent work time. The teacher is helping another student and is busy.

You missed directions so you don't know, so you look at the paper and the board for directions and then look around to see what your classmates are doing. They are working on a sheet but you aren't sure exactly what to do. So you quietly lean over and ask the person next to you. They tell you what the directions are. You get to work!
