An Element is a ?
Pure Substance made of Atoms.
Name 3 Physical Changes.
Tearing Paper
Ice Melting
Glass Breaking
Sanding Wood
What is Luster?
How the surface of a mineral appears when it reflects light (e.g., shiny or dull).
What is the Formula for Density?
D= M/V
Density = Mass divided by volume
What is a subscript?
The Chemical Symbol for Nitrogen is?
Capital N
What is a chemical Change?
Is a process where one or more substances are altered into one or more new and different substances.
The formation of a new substance with different properties; cannot be undone by physical means.
Name 3 Physical properties of metals.
Luster, conductivity, and malleability.
A cast-iron pan has a volume of 107 cubic centimeters and a mass of 749 grams. What is its density?
7
What are the states of Matter?
Solid, Liquid, Gas and Plasma.
What are the two types of Mixtures?
Explain both..
Homogenous- Has uniform composition throughout.
Heterogenous- Does not look the same and does not have a uniform composition.
Name 3 examples of chemical changes.
Malleability is?
Ability to be formed or shaped under pressure (e.g., metals hammered or rolled into thin sheets)
Define Mass, Volume and Density.
Mass – the amount of matter in something.
Volume – the amount of space that a substance or object occupies.
Density – the amount of matter that will fit into a given amount of space.
What is Ductility?
What is Streak?
Ductility – ability to be stretched into a wire without breaking.
Streak- The color of the mineral when rubbed on a streak plate.
What is an Atom?

Building blocks to all Matter and the smallest unit of an element.
Difference between reversible changes and irreversible changes.
Give 3 examples of each
Reversible: A substance can return to its original state. Example: Water to Ice
Melting, freezing, boiling, evaporating, condensing, dissolving and also, changing the shape of a substance are examples of reversible changes.
Irreversible: A substance cannot return to its original state. Irreversible changes are permanent changes that cannot be undone. Cooking, baking, frying, burning, mixing, rusting, heating are examples of irreversible changes.
Metalloids are
Substances that exhibit some properties of metals and nonmetals.
A brass button has a volume of 1.1 cubic centimeters and a mass of 9.9 grams. What is its density?
9.0 grams per cubic centimeter
A loaf of bread has a volume of 1,000 cubic centimeters and a mass of 600 grams. What is its density?
0.6
What is a compound? 3 Answers
A pure substance made of two or more elements combined.
Represented by a chemical Formula.
You can tell it is a compound if it has 2 or more Capital letters.
Metalloids are known as ________and why ?
Semiconductors- because they conduct better then non metals but not as good as Metals.
