What is the purpose of aseptic technique in microbiology?

To prevent contamination and maintain a sterile environment during experiments and procedures.

What is the purpose of Gram staining in microbiology?

Help differentiate and classify bacteria into two main groups. Gram-positive and Gram-negative. And identifying and understanding different types of bacteria.

100

what are the steps of cellular respiration?

1) Glycolysis 2) Synthesis of acetyl-CoA 3) Krebs cycle 4) Electron transport chain

  1. What are the key steps involved in practicing aseptic technique?

  1. Wash hands thoroughly, Disinfect work area, Sterilize tools with flame, Minimize exposure and touch, Promptly close tubes or plates, Dispose of used materials properly.

200

How does the Gram stain reaction relate to bacterial cell wall composition?

Gram-positive bacteria have thick peptidoglycan and retain purple stain, while Gram-negative bacteria have thinner peptidoglycan and take up pink stain.

Simple substances are synthesized into the complex materials of living tissue is called?

Anabolic Reaction

  1. How does aseptic technique contribute to accurate and reliable microbiological results?

Keeps things clean and prevents contamination, which leads to more accurate and reliable microbiological results.

300

Explain the steps involving Gram staining?

First, stain with crystal violet for about 30 seconds

Second, wash off stain with water

Third, cover with iodine solution for about 30 seconds

Fourth, rinse with water

Fifth, decolorize with alcohol for 10-20 seconds and rinse with water

Sixth, counterstain with safranin for about 30 seconds

Seventh, rinse with water

Eighth, blot off excess water.

300

The metabolic breakdown of complex molecules into simpler ones, often resulting in the release of energy is called?

Catabolic Reaction

400

What are common mistakes to avoid when practicing aseptic technique?

Touching non-sterile surfaces,  Not washing hands thoroughly, Improper use of personal protective equipment, Opening containers for too long, Cross-contamination.

400

Why is the decolonization step important in gram staining?

It helps differentiate between gram positive and gram negative bacteria. It removes the purple stain from the gram negative bacteria, allowing the pink counterstain to be applied.

400

Microbes that don’t make these enzymes cannot exist in the presence of oxygen?

Obligate anaerobes

The program of removing bacteria from floors, walls, corridors, and furniture is known as:

Environmental sanitation

In 1884, Who discovered bacteria could be differentially stained using a sequence of 4 reagents?

Christian Gramm (1884)
