This guideline is the why of learning and the goal is to capture students' interest, sustain effort, and self-regulate.
Engagement
100
Compare the UDL guidelines engagement and representation.

How is a teaching practice that follows the UDL framework different than a traditional syle teahcing practice?
A UDL framework teaching practice engages in a flexible learning environment. This teacher understands the many different and diverse needs the students have and tailors the instruction to the individual learning needs. This allows the education to be accessible to all students. There is a variance in how the concept can be taught, how the students represent what they have learned, and it is important to keep in mind the students' interests, preferences, and motivation when planning lessons. A traditional style teaching practice does not have as much flexibility in the classroom. Individual students' needs may not be thought of when planning lessons. Therefore, the instruction is not tailored to the students' learning needs. Additionally, the teacher may lower expectations rather than keeping expectations high for all students. (allow for some leniency on this question)
