As a result, some Americans of German decent were persecuted. Innocent People were suspected of spying or helping the enemy. Others were hurt, arrested, or murdered.

It was needed to allow the government to censor information, or to keep it from the public. It was now against the law to interfere with the draft or refuse military duty. Resisting any law could land a person in jail. This act caused less freedom and priced people to support America.

The committee’s writers produced propaganda to get more bonds from the people's to send to the war. Propaganda was ideas in journalism used to damage other's reputations. Advertising campaigns also tried to convince people that their patriotic duty was to buy bonds.
