How many planets are there?

8 planets.

100

Which is bigger, an asteroid or a meteor?

Asteroid.

100

Which one has more visible craters on it, the Moon or Earth?

The Moon.

100

How many Moons does the Earth have?

One.

100

How many moons does Jupiter have? Make a rough estimate.

It has over 60 moons.

200

What are the 8 planets in order?

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune

200

How does the size of a meteor affect the size of a crater?

The bigger the meteor, the bigger the crater.

200

In the flour experiment, which object made a larger crater, the tennis ball, the marble, or the pool ball? Why?

The tennis ball made a larger crater because the tennis ball is larger than those other objects.

200

How did the Moon most likely form?

Billions of years ago, an asteroid hit Earth and a piece of the Earth broke off. This piece became the Moon.

200

Do all planets have only one Moon?

No. Some planets have several moons.

300

What is the largest planet in the solar system?

Jupiter.

300

What are meteors and asteroids made of?

They are made of metals, rock and dust.

300

What kind of object makes a DEEPER crater?

A dense, heavy object.

300

Where does the Moon get its light from? BE SPECIFIC.

The sun's light shines on the Moon and reflects off of it, making it look bright.

300

What is the Earth's atmosphere made of? Which gases?

Oxygen and carbon dioxide.

400

If it takes about 12 Earth years for Jupiter to rotate around the Sun, what does that mean?

It means that Jupiter goes around the Sun once every 12 years we spend on Earth.

400

What's the difference between a comet and a meteor?

Meteors are made of rock and metals while comets are made from ice as well.

400

What helps protect the Earth from impacts by meteors?

The Earth's atmosphere. It helps burn the meteors that come towards Earth.

400

How long does the Moon take to go around the Earth once? Also, what are temperatures like on the Moon?

One month. The Moon's temperature ranges from -200 to 200 degrees.

400

What was Earth like after an asteroid hit and killed the dinosaurs? What was the atmosphere like?

Most of the Earth was on fire and was very hot. The atmosphere became filled with dust, which blocked out the Sun and covered the Earth.

500

What are the 4 gas planets? What are the 4 rocky planets?

Gas planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune

Rocky planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars

500
In what layer does a meteor burn up in Earth's atmosphere? Also, WHY DOES IT BURN UP?

Meteors burn up in the third layer of the atmosphere, the Mesosphere.

Once meteors come into contact with air on Earth, the pressure of the air against the speed of the meteor causes it to catch on fire and burn away.

500

There definitely are craters on the Earth. However, why can't we see them like we can see the ones on the Moon? BE SPECIFIC. What does Earth have that the Moon doesn't?

Earth has weathering, and the rain and wind erodes the craters down so we can't see them as well due to erosion.

500

Explain what conditions are like on the Moon. What is the atmosphere like? What is the weather like?

The Moon has no atmosphere. Because there is no atmosphere, there is no weather on the Moon either. Nothing happens on the Moon.

500

What are black holes?

Black holes are holes in space that suck everything into them and crush everything until matter turns into dust.
